New Year Surprises

First off I would like to start with a thank you. My sister encouraged me to open my blog to the public way back when I started. And guess what my little sis was right, I have met people who seem to get some of the things that makes me tick. There is also the bonus of unexpected friendships formed, with people I most likely would have never met in my regular day to day life.
.
So again thank you sis, your advice was spot on :)
.
Now yesterday the first lot of delayed post came through the letter box and low and behold there was a little letter for me, I knew it must have been seeds of some kind but since I was not expecting anything I was a tad confused.
.
A quick flip over and read of the return address told me who the sender was. It was from one of my newly formed friends I have made through my blogs, this blog in particular. Her name is Maureen and she also has a blog where she shares her gardening experiences; Allotment Heaven. She also recently started a new blog where she shares her delicious recipes which she cooks up with her allotment grown veg; Recipes from Allotment Heaven.
.
Maureen saw these sweetpea seeds in her local M&S and got some for herself and a couple friends and I was one of the lucky friends. look at the colour of those sweet pea flowers, you just know that the scent is going to be gorgeous and overpowering. I can't wait to get them growing along my picket fence boundary.
.
.
Now as far as I was concern the gift didn't stop there, look at the embellishments of the beautifully handcrafted card made by Maureen that the seeds were placed in. I was so taken by the simple clean beauty, that I was immediately inspired to create some wearable art. Plus I didn't want the card to get lost in my stash in a draw somewhere, I wanted to see it often and remember why I got it.
.
.
So I decided to make a necklace using the clay focal point (also made by Maureen, ain't she talented) and the seed beads accent pieces.

So with some ribbon I picked up in town today and using some other pieces from home I created this mixed media necklace. Now every time I wear it I will remember a friend and her kindness.

So thanks Maureen not only for the seeds and the beautiful future they will soon bring but thanks for the inspiration you awoke in me yesterday. It is the first mixed media piece I have made that I'm pleased with, so thanks again for sharing your spark.

  3. Yes indeed, thank you x
By the way, i posted a couple of those recipes on my new blog.
The red cabbage in pomegrante sauce was from Nigella's Christmas cookbook which i got from the library I work in. I can't find it now so I assume someone else has taken it out.
Thats where you will find it though.
Have a lovely day too x

  5. Wow ! Kella, what can I say ? first of all thank you for the public airing of my card and also the link. I am so chuffed that you liked it enough to make such a fabulous piece of jewellery, it's a beautiful necklace and I feel honoured that you used my embellishment from the card.

I am going to post some more for you to see (not put on cards yet) that I made ages ago and haven't felt inclined to do anything with, all interest lost unfortunately ! but you have inspired me to do some more.
By the way I loved your video of the children having such fun in the snow. It snowed during the night again here and is still going, so it is deep again, I really am fed up now, when is it going to stop.

  6. Wow, you two are just too clever for words. Maureen's card is wonderful, and the embelishments beautiful, no wonder you wanted to keep them in some way, and what a brilliant idea adding them into a necklace. How exciting too to receive seeds through the post which you weren't expecting. Those Sweet Peas look heavenly and how kind of Maureen to think of you.

  9. Maureen, I'm happy that you liked what I did with your embellishments. It really did relight a spark and I have been busy doing a couple more pieces today. Hey and maybe my shout out about your blogs and your talents will bring forth an even better year 2010 than you envisioned ;)

We also woke to snow this morning too and it remained till half one, about an inch fell all together. Though we adults may get tired the kids are loving it and my girls were out there again after the afternoon school run till it got dark and believe me my kids do not play outside in the winter, so hey, its all good :)

Hi Jo, thanks for the lovely compliments for both of us. I'm really pleased Maureen saw fit to pass on a gift, it has meant a lot in more ways than one. Those sweet peas sure are pretty, I swear every time I look at the packet I think I can smell them already :)

Tanya, you're right impromptu gifts are certainly the best, especially through the post. My sis rarely leaves comments but she does read my blogs, so I'm sure she'll see your thanks and feel quite gleeful that she was right, right sis!

Mangocheeks, thanks for your kudos as well, aren't friendships surprising they pop up in the least expected places. Oh dear I think I might have to find a pin, for my sister ;)
